Do I need supportive briefs?
This all depends on what stage of pregnancy you’re at. At the beginning of your pregnancy your bump really won’t be that big, so won’t need the extra support. We would suggest buying some that are cut lower at the front (like any of our briefs!) so won’t dig in as your bump grows.
Our briefs are great for every stage of your pregnancy…
Why not try our Second Skin short (or the organic cotton version) for when you’re in a comfy mood. You’ll want a little more coverage and this style won’t give you any VPL. It’s great for the later stages of your pregnancy because it’s cut lower at the front so won’t dig into your bump and is made from super soft fabric for when every inch of your skin feels irritated.
When you’re feeling a bit better (perhaps around the 4-7 month mark or once you’ve recovered a bit from the birth) why not try our Cupcake lace brief. The all lace back adds a little sexiness but the front is still cut lower to give your bump or new-mum-tum some room. This one is great for when you’re in the mood to wear a pretty set.
After you’ve had your baby and you’re ready for a bit of vah-vah-voom why not try our Luna brief? You’re not quite ready to transition to a thong (still working on that beach body) but you want something a bit special that matches the brand new padded flexi-wire nursing bra that gives you amazing support and shape!
But will I really need supportive briefs?
When you get to the later stages of pregnancy (after the 28 week mark) you’ll notice that it’s getting a little harder to bend over and you can forget what your feet look like! At this point you might want to consider some supportive briefs, like these from JoJo Maman Bébé. This is particularly important if you are having multiples and will help avoid straining your back and protect your pelvic floor from complete collapse.
If you have a quick search, you’ll see that they are a long way away from what you imagine yourself in but trust us when we say that they are necessary. Don’t worry, you don’t have to wear them in front of your partner if you don’t want to!
You could always try a belly band if you’re really reluctant to don the grannies. There are some great options out there that give amazing support and aren’t quite so ugly!
Don’t forget – if you’re confused what nursing bra you should be wearing at what stage (because you can still wear them whilst pregnant) we have a really helpful guide on our website.
